One of our clients suffered a terrible road traffic accident in the UK. It was a usual day for her, she recalled.
“Everything was so normal the day I experienced the accident. I started my morning routine as usual. Nothing gave away. I am not superstitious you know, but sometimes you feel something awful is about to happen, so you take extra care. That day was different.”
She had decided to take a walk. She wanted to cross the street and decided to wait until she could see the pedestrian walking sign so she could cross the street safely.
“I must have hardly taken two to three steps when I was hit by a car; it came out of nowhere, and he was driving way too fast. He didn’t even respond to the traffic signs. I remember that moment vividly. I thought for a whole minute that I was dead.”
Suddenly falling on the road, momentarily dazed, she began to bleed from her right ankle. Police and ambulance services arrived at the scene. She was treated by paramedics before being taken to the hospital.

Post-accident, she experienced severe pain, deformity, and bruising in her right ankle, which improved over time but left her with mild to moderately severe pain that increased with activity and decreased with rest.
She also developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in her ankle, causing symptoms such as swelling, colour changes, increased sensitivity, and coldness at night.
The accident significantly impacted her daily life, initially restricting her ability to perform housework, DIY tasks, walking, standing, lifting, shopping, and sleeping. These restrictions improved gradually in the following months.
